Dress code
Standard golf attire is required on the course.
1st/10th Tee
On the first tee a group playing their 10th hole have priority over a group yet to start their round, then groups should alternate.
9th hole
This is a “wave down” hole. Players on the green should mark their balls, and wave players on the tee down. They should putt out after these players have teed off.
On the course
All golfers are requested to replace divots and repair pitchmarks. Trolleys must not be taken near the greens. Please take care when walking on the greens. Bunkers should be raked after use, and all litter should be placed in bins.
Each group should aim to stay in touch with the group ahead. If a gap of more than 1 hole develops, the group should call through any quicker group waiting behind them.
Ready Golf
The club adopts the philosophy of “Ready Golf” which relies on players playing when they are ready to do so, rather than adhering strictly to the “farthest from the hole plays first” stipulation in the Rules of Golf. Examples of this include:
-
Hitting a shot when safe to do so if a player farther away faces a challenging shot and is taking time to assess their options
-
Shorter hitters playing first from the tee or fairway if longer hitters have to wait
-
On honour system on tee, simply play when ready
-
Hitting a shot before helping someone to look for a lost ball
-
Putting out even if it means standing close to someone else’s line
-
Hitting a shot if a person who has just played from a greenside bunker is still farthest from the hole but is delayed due to raking the bunker
-
When a player’s ball has gone over the back of a green, any player closer to the hole but chipping from the front of the green should play while the other player is having to walk to their ball and assess their shot
Safety
Golf is a game played out in the open and on undulating ground. All golfers must take responsibility to dress appropriately for the conditions and to take care when moving around the course. The following is taken from the R&A Rules of Golf:
-
Players should ensure that no-one is standing close by or in a position to be hit when they make a stroke or practice swing.
-
Players should not play until the players in front are out of range.
-
If a player plays a ball in a direction where there is a danger of hitting someone including other players and green staff, they should immediately shout a warning. The traditional word of warning in such situations is “fore”.
