Junior Fixtures

The Junior Sections Cupar Golf Club are very supportive of young and Junior members. We do this in different ways to encourage children and make their introduction to golf FUN. 4 holes competitions Very young and new players start by playing 4 hole competitions. These are arranged on Fun Sundays throughout the Summer months. We arrange fun handicaps so young players can measure their improvements and it allows for prizewinners for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The generous handicap system really does mean that everyone has a chance. Adults are encouraged to accompany very young children to help them on their way round. No golfing skills required! Once 4 holes can be accomplished in 24 strokes or less, progress can be made to the 9 hole section. A budding golf career is already underway. 9 hole competitions By now our young players have an idea of the game having come through the introductory 4 hole competitions but the emphasis is still on fun. Players begin learning more about rules and etiquette whilst honing their skills on the course. Played on the same Sundays as the 4 holes, means brothers and sisters can play in either competition. The Junior Committee members adjust a simple handicap system for 9 holes and again minor prizes are provided for 1st, 2nd and 3rd, nett and gross scores. The atmosphere on Fun Sundays is fabulous with a buzzing clubhouse, light snacks, meals and drinks enjoyed by all. 18 hole competitions The Club is placing an emphasis on increasing the number of Junior players moving in to this section. A balance between age and ability means these young players are much more self-sufficient. With full handicaps they manage themselves around the course, recording scores and playing competitions as well as friendly games. Older, more established players will mentor younger children and support them in this transition period. The Club supports them by arranging coaching sessions by older Juniors who are also studying College golf, and an introduction to Rules and Etiquette. In 2013 and 2014 Cupar Golf Club has been represented by Junior members playing in national S.G.U. Championships.
